New UIS Website Goes Live

The new site represents a radical shift in the way we present our data. Rather than sending our visitors to complex databases, the new site focuses on the kind of information that people want in the era of the Sustainable Development Goals, packaged in the way that is most useful for them.

The biggest innovation has been to ‘unpack’ the UIS database, breaking down the once separate siloes of hard data, analysis (reports) and the story-telling provided by data visualisations and other tools. Now our web users can see the data in context.

New R&D Data

The data were collected through the Institute’s survey on R&D statistics in partnership with regional and international organizations, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Eurostat.

ISCED Mappings

Our Donors

The UIS first opened its doors in Montreal in 2001 with just a handful of staff and computers. Today, the Institute is the primary source of cross-nationally comparable data in the fields of education, science, culture and communication. We work with national statistical offices around the world to develop the standards, methodologies and indicators countries need to achieve their development goals by using data to benchmark their progress and better target their policies for maximum effect.
