What is the 2025 UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics (FCS)?

The 2025 UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics (FCS) represents a landmark update to the global methodology for measuring culture’s social and economic contribution. 
Developed by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) in collaboration with the Culture Sector, the 2025 UNESCO FCS provides a comprehensive, and forward-looking approach to cultural data collection and analysis. It responds to the growing demand for robust, internationally comparable cultural statistics and aligns with the ambitions of the MONDIACULT 2022 Declaration.

Objectives of the Launch

The global launch event will:

  • Officially unveil the 2025 UNESCO FCS to the global cultural policy and statistics community.
  • Highlight the framework’s conceptual innovations, including its new model of value generation and the cultural and creative ecosystem
  • Mobilize stakeholders for national implementation and capacity-building efforts.

Format:

The event will include a High-level panel and a moderated discussion on the importance of cultural statistics in policy formulation and the analysis of the culture sector. The panel will include distinguished Ministers of Culture, Representatives of International Organizations, Representatives of International Cultural Associations and Academia.

The event will be held in English.
