A new methodological paper explains the process undertaken by UIS experts to produce internationally-comparable education indicators. Entitled “UIS Indicator Development in the Field of Education”, the paper explains how the Institute takes measures to reduce the burden on survey respondents by using existing mechanisms and outlines the steps taken to produce new indicators.
As the source of global data on education (and other UNESCO fields of competence), the UIS regularly develops new indicators needed to monitor progress towards international goals, especially Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, address data demands from Member States and international partners, and supply new information on key issues such as the financing of education at the country level.
This UIS information paper provides a transparent and insider-look at the ways in which the Institute produces data and indicators for global monitoring and benchmarking.
