The latest results of the large-scale reading assessments, PIRLS, will be launched by UNESCO and the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) on 5 December 2017 in Paris. Entitled Measuring SDG 4: How PIRLS Can Help, the report presents key findings related to the school environment, gender disadvantage and early childhood education as a foundation for learning.
The event will also underline the relevance of PIRLS and ePIRLS for policymaking and actions needed to fulfill the commitments in the SDG 4-Education 2030 Agenda.
Conducted by IEA, PIRLS 2016 is the fourth cycle of the study assessing students’ reading achievement at Grade 4 and collects extensive background information on school climate and resources, curriculum, instructional practices and home supports for learning. IEA also implemented the first cycle of ePIRLS, a computer-based reading assessment of students’ ability to acquire and use information when reading online.
